Many people appreciate the opportunity to talk over their situation and explore their emotions with someone who isn't involved and who can offer support and perhaps a different perspective. The people who have worked with me in counselling found it helped them to come to terms with confusing or painful experiences and aspects of their lives, and to discover and affirm their own strengths. I work hard to try to understand what is happening for you and to offer both a confidential space for you to be heard and ideas about how you might change your situation.

I have particular experience with adults, young people and children under stress, and with adults and teenagers who have experienced difficulties in childhood. In addition to my private practice, I work as a trainer and supervisor for organisations offering therapeutic support to young people. I have worked as a pastoral lead and advisor in education, and have experience of training and supporting staff in a range of other caring professions. I take a strong interest in supporting people who have chosen a caring profession but may now find themselves struggling to manage the particular stresses of such work.

Not all types of issues can be resolved through counselling and I will advise you if I consider that some other form of support might be more appropriate to your personal needs and presenting issues, or if I do not have the experience and skills needed to support you. Where I consider that counselling would not be the most suitable means of support, I will make every effort to assist you in a referral to a suitable alternative source of support.
I work within the ethical framework of the BACP.
